Regardless of how students decide to study for exams, it’s important to remember that we all learn differently. And finally, try to apply the spacing-effect, where you spread out your study sessions rather than cramming your studying all together, allowing for better memory of the material.” “Also, you must test yourself, because it’s the only way you can learn the material this is called the testing-effect. “Make sure your studying is meaningful because comprehension gets you so much further than raw repetition,” Smith shared. Additionally, Smith provided some principles that generally result in better exam results. Smith also suggested listening to familiar background music, because it’s less distracting than something new or exciting. “So if you want to listen to music while you study, try to listen to something that does not have words, or if it does have words, hopefully, it’ll be in a language that you don’t understand at all, otherwise that’s going to distract from the stuff you’re trying to study.” “In general, words are distracting,” Smith shared. Steven Smith, cognitive neuroscientist for the Department of Psychological & Brain Sciences, provided some suggestions for students who wish to continue this study habit. “However wearing headphones will almost certainly be a violation during most exams, so listening to music when you’re studying will make it harder to replicate that context when you’re taking an exam.”Įven though experts suggest listening to music can hinder your ability to retain information while studying, some students choose to continue the practice. “If you have music going on in the background when you study, it’s going to be easier to recall that information if you also have music on in the background when you take the exam,” Anderson said. So when studying for an exam, it’s best to mimic the exam conditions. In basic terms of memory, Anderson explained that we do a better job of recalling information in the same conditions in which we learn the material. “So when you’re doing two things at the same time, like studying and listening to music, and one of the things requires cognitive effort, there will be a cost to how much information you can retain doing both activities.” “ Multitasking is a fallacy human beings are not capable of truly multitasking because attention is a limited resource, and you can only focus on so much without a cost,” cognitive psychologist Brian Anderson said. While some chug caffeine, others turn up the music as they hit the books.Īlthough listening to music can make studying more enjoyable, psychologists from the Department of Psychological & Brain Sciences have found that this popular study habit is more distracting than beneficial. Students turn to varying vices to help improve their chance of getting a good grade. There’s no season quite like an exam season on a university campus. However, listening to music may be more distracting than helpful for effective studying. Students have adopted several studying techniques to prepare for exams.

A cut melon, if covered with plastic wrap or aluminum foil, will keep several days in the refrigerator. If the seeds present a problem, grow seedless watermelon varieties like 'Seedless Sugar Baby Hybrid'. Some folks sprinkle a little salt on their watermelon, but it's probably thought of as a cure for poor tasting store-bought melons and certainly not necessary for home-grown. After picking a watermelon, chill it before serving for best flavor. Also, all watermelons lose the powdery or slick appearance on the top and take on a dull look when fully ripe. As the watermelon matures, the spot turns from almost white to a rich yellow. The surest sign of ripeness in most watermelon varieties is the color of the bottom spot where the melon sits on the ground. Start watermelon seeds indoors and use black plastic mulch. Dissolve 1 tablespoon of household borax in 1 gallon of water and spray foliage and the base of the plants. Watermelon contains high levels of healthy antioxidants, making Sugar Baby a great sweet way to pack in good nutrition. When vines begin to ramble, give watermelon plants a dose of boron to help them produce sweeter fruits. Withhold water as melons start to mature to intensify sweetness. A third application of fertilizer should be made when melons are set. When vines begin to ramble, side dress plants with half a cup of balanced fertilizer (5-10-5). Watermelon plants have moderately deep roots and watering is seldom necessary unless the weather turns dry for a prolonged period. Keep soil free of weeds by shallow hoeing or with a layer of mulch. Space hills 3 to 4 feet apart, with at least 8 feet between rows. Sow 8 to 10 watermelon seeds in a hill, and push seeds 1 inch into the soil. This watermelon has a round/oval shape with a. Add a balanced fertilizer that is high in nitrogen. Lemon Ice F1 Hybrid seedless watermelon has crisp, lemon-yellow flesh with high brix. Amend soil with organic matter such as compost or composted cow manure. F1, really early, icebox type with sweet yellow flesh, 3-5 lb, round, green striped, compact plant, 68 days. So, plant where there is plenty of open ground. The flesh from Yellow Doll watermelon seeds is bright lemon-yellow, very sweet, with a pleasing, dense, crisp texture. Watermelon is a space hog vines can reach 20 feet in length. Make sure the area is warm? Day and night? Ideally 80 degrees F. Place in a sunny south-facing window or under lights to germinate. Plant 3 seeds in 3- or 4-inch peat pots or large cell packs, and thin to the best plant. Don't start seeds any earlier, because large watermelon seedlings transplant poorly. To get a jumpstart in cooler climates, cover the planting area with black plastic to warm up the soil and start seeds indoors two or three weeks before they are to be set out in the garden. You can buy these in garden centres from May to June and then plant them out in the open. Sow seeds 1 inch deep and keep well-watered until germination. It is of course easier to purchase young watermelon plants in stores. Soil should be 70 degrees F or warmer at planting time. Watermelons need a long growing season (at least 80 days) and warm ground for seeds to germinate and grow. Every gardener should plant a hill or two of watermelons as they are easy to grow and, oh so good on sultry summer afternoons. Charge members one single monthly rate with no hidden fees.NASM Certified Personal Trainer and Nutrition Coach, Group Fitness Instructor Signs say that it's $9.95 a month, but then you find out about the $50 sign-on fee and the $50 charge three months after you join to "guarantee that your monthly rate doesn't go up." That's ridiculous. I would not ever join a VASA gym in the future because of a lack of transparency. When we called customer service to get it sorted, the person on the phone was completely inflexible and would not work with us. You can sign up immediately-why require written 30-days notice to cancel? It's just a grab for members' money. It's costing us $60 to cancel because we're being charged for two future payment periods even though we want to cancel NOW. (If you use a credit or debit card, the charge goes up even more.) We went for 6 months before cancelling to avoid the $25 early fee, but now we're paying $30 for another month because of the ludicrous 30-day cancellation notice policy. We have actually been charged $30 each month because Dustin did not tell us the guest privileges were an extra charge. If you're struggling that bad, then you should probably focus on getting your finances straight before you get your workout on.īut over all, pretty good gym, just not my favorite location. In reality, not too many people can't afford an extra $10/month. The $20/month is so that I can have full access to everything and allows me to go to any location, so the extra $10 is definitely worth it. I personally pay about $30/month for me and a friend to go, but I just need to bring a friend along to make it worth it. But fair warning when coming to this VASA location: they don't have a pool, basketball court, racketball court, or many of the amenities that people want at a gym besides weights. That thing is smaller than my living room. Hands down, it is much better than the BYU Student gym. Yea, it can be a bit pricy, but that's what you get when you want to change your lifestyle. I was hopeful that I would like it there, but it was a joke and not worth it at all. I will never get any kind of membership with VASA in the future. They continue to charge me every two weeks even though i have paid the transfer fee to sell my contract to someone else - she hasnt signed the papers yet. It has been a total headache and nightmare trying to sell my contract. I decided to cancel, but you are locked in.the only way you can get out is if you sell or contract or move more than 25 miles away from the nearest VASA. I was told they would also help with my nutrition and helping me know what to eat (I have stomach problems and hoped working out regularly and eating better would help) I told them I was thinking about hiring a nutritionist and I was told my trainer would help with that for me as well - never received any help. It is over priced for what you're getting. They will take just about anyone to be their trainers for them. I just feel I should share my experience - I bought a personal training membership with them, and it was a complete joke. Mumble can keep tap dancing indefinitely until interrupted by an enemy or if Mumble interrupts it himself by taking any action including using a move, jumping or dodging. Up Special (in air): the same as up specialĭown Special: Mumble starts to tap dance, he can even move horizontally left and right slowly whilst continuing to tap dance. Up Special: Up Special is another way to enter slide mode however he initially leaps into the air like how a Penguin would leap out of the water before entering slide mode. Side Special (in air): the same as side special Whilst in slide mode Mumble will deal small damage and knock back into any enemy he bumps into, this does not interrupt slide mode in any way. In slide mode Mumble becomes the fastest character in the game, Mumble can turn freely in slide mode and can stay in it indefinitely until an enemy interrupts it or Mumble interrupts it himself by using any normal or special move however Mumble does not interrupt it by jumping or dodging allowing him to move freely around the map in slide mode. Side Special: Mumble dives forwards onto his belly and enters slide mode. Neutral Special (in air): the same as neutral special If Mumble holds the projectile in his beak without spitting it out for 9 seconds he automatically swallows it and heals for 5 health, the swallow does not have an animation, he must then use Neutral Special again if he wants to get another fish. After this animation Mumble can use Neutral Special again later to spit out the fish as a projectile, this projectile is very low damage and knock back but the start up and end animation as well as the projectile speed are very quick allowing Mumble to use the projectile to interrupt the enemy, start combos and extend combos effectively. Neutral Special: Mumble flips a fish into the air catching it in his beak. Weight: 50 (the same as Bugs, Reindog, Rick and Steven)īASE movement speed: Slowest in the game (Penguins do walk pretty slow but don't worry, despite having the slowest base movement speed he's actually the fastest character in the game, you'll understand if you keep reading) Size: Similar to Velma in height and width although has unique silhouette obviously If you like the idea spread the word and get Mumble in Multiversus next year. property and Happy Feet is a bit of a fan favorite movie, this is how I imagine him playing. Bose Noise Cancelling Headphones 700 ($379).I haven't given up on it, though, and am giving it another shot with its higher-end sibling, the Kraken V3 Pro. Other issues I've had include it being a little too tight (especially with glasses), its THX Spatial Surround falling a bit short of other virtual surround technologies I've used, and the braided but thick cable tends to kink. And without game support it's too random for instance, bass-voiced narration rumbles in a disconcerting way and it kicks in when I have mic monitoring on. Thus far, I've found it more distracting than immersive. But I suspect the haptic feedback is an acquired taste, though. It has the same great sound quality as the other Razer headsets with the TriForce Titanium drivers. The new version improves upon its predecessor found in the Razer Nari line by being able to work without specific support within a game and the ability to choose from two intensities. Razer Kraken V3 HyperSense ($95): Razer's updated haptic feedback debuted in this gaming headset - it basically vibrates when the signal contains certain frequencies, in order to provide positional information and a more immersive experience. You do get a two-year activation card for a Dolby Atmos subscription (at least the last time I looked) for Windows 10/11 and Xbox One or later. It doesn't come with a headphone/mic splitter cable, a common omission in budget headsets, and the shortish cable isn't removable, but it's a good length if you're going to plug it into a controller for use with the Xbox. To adjust size, there's a combination of three notches on the headband - you basically pop out the earcup to move it, so if it comes under stress it just pops out - and a basic suspension band. Its flat rubber cable is a step up from competitors: Flatness makes it tangle-free and less susceptible to damage when I roll over it with my chair. The last generation of the headset got complaints about build quality, but I've been using it for months with no issues. The mic is both removable and flip-up, which you rarely see at this price. It's comfortable and relatively light with good 3D audio, pretty decent mic quality, good noise isolation and an inline volume control that's neither too far down the cable or too far up. I powered through this time, and although I'm still not fond of the appearance, it's turned out to be one of my go-to headsets in why-doesn't-my-pc-see-my-wireless-headset emergencies. The first time I saw the Rig series of gaming headsets - well before the brand was bought by gaming and accessory company Nacon - I was so turned off by the aesthetic I didn't even take the headset out of the box.
